PCDart and Pocket Dairy are dairy management programs designed and maintained by Dairy Records Management Systems (DRMS). Service and Support are provided by Dairy Lab Services and by DRMS - Ames office, located at Iowa State University.

Lab Information

Dairy Lab Services is subject to and meets the requirements of the following regulatory agencies: Food and Drug Administration, Iowa Dept. of Agriculture, Iowa Dept. of Natural Resources, Grade A Pasteurized Milk Ordinance, National Dairy Herd Improvement Association. Trained qualified technicians perform Component and Quality Analysis of milk samples. Components are tested for: Butterfat, Protein, Somatic Cell Count, Lactose, Other Solids, Total Solids, Added Water and Milk Urea Nitrogen (MUN). Quality analysis of milk samples are tested for Plate Loop Count, Preliminary Incubation, Cryoscope, Sediment, Antibiotic, Direct Microscope SCC, Coliform (Water) and Nitrates (Water).  Other analysis of milk samples includes: Mastitis Cultures (Including Staph aureus, Strep ag, Non-ag strep species and E.coli), Pro-Staph Elisa Test and Johne's Milk Elisa Test.  Beyond the actual laboratory analysis, DLS can provide a variety of other services upon request: Barcodes - printing and scanning, Weight tickets - entry and recording, State reports - compiling and filing, Results delivery - mail, fax or email. Dairy Lab Services (DLS) is a certified meter repair and calibration facility of Tru-Test and Waikato Milk Meters. Annually, every milk meter is water tested to ensure it conforms to the stringent ICAR standards for milk yield and composition.  DLS meets the requirements established in the Council on Dairy Breeding Auditing Procedures for Meter Centers and Technicians. Every two years, Quality Certification Services conducts an on-site audit at DLS to insure that the meter center and meter repair technicians conform to the councils' requirements. In addition to samples arriving via the Postal Service, UPS and FedEx, DLS has a courier route service that picks up samples and delivers supplies six nights a week. DLS has four routes, 3 that depart and travel throughout eastern Iowa and SW Wisconsin and 1 route that runs throughout the Northern part of Illinois.
